The Anne Cordner Fund
Anne Cordner (1926-2009) was a longstanding champion of International Social Service and its Australian branch, ISS Australia. Anne first became involved in ISS as a young mother, when she volunteered to assist in its work of connecting families and protecting children across international borders. This led to a lifelong dedication to the social work field and ISS, as Anne undertook a social work degree, was employed as a caseworker and then eventually became Director of the Australian branch, a position she held for many years. Later she became a key member of ISS Australia’s Council (now Board), a position she still occupied at the time of her passing.
Anne was widely known and much loved among members of the ISS network, travelling to overseas meetings for almost 30 years. She was a passionate supporter of ISS Australia’s core casework services, insisting that they continue to be provided despite the financial and other challenges involved. For Anne, the task of providing effective help to people in need was paramount, coming before all other considerations such as changes in government policies. Anne’s devotion to her work, her personal charm and sparkling nature are an inspiration to all at ISS Australia to strengthen and extend the casework services she valued so highly.
Following Anne’s passing, ISS Australia’s Board, with the permission and involvement of the Cordner family, resolved to establish a memorial Fund in her name to honour her dedication and commitment to ISS over many decades. The Fund is managed by ISS Australia and is governed by a set of Rules provided by Freehills Solicitors. The Fund aims to build a ‘corpus’ of funds which will be maintained in perpetuity; income generated by the Fund each year will then be used to support the work of ISS Australia’s unfunded services.
