2012 Annual General Meeting
ISS Australia’s 51st Annual General Meeting was held on 27 November at 4.00pm, at our National Office in Melbourne. Our guest speaker this year was James McDougall, Director of Advocacy for Save the Children and former Director of the National Children’s and Youth Law Centre. James’s speech was entitled “What’s So Dangerous About Listening To Children?” and can be downloaded here.
National Office: 2011 Open Day
Each year, Universal Children’s Day is celebrated on 20 November. To mark this occasion, ISS Australia held an Open Day at its National Office on Friday 18 November from 10.30am to 3.30pm. The day featured a presentation by ISS Australia’s Patron, the Hon. Alastair Nicholson AO RFD QC (former Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia), on “Children, Imprisonment and Human Rights”; presentations on intercountry social work, our services and the ISS global network; door prizes and an Info Pack to take away.
3rd Annual National Post Adoption Meeting
The NSW Committee on Adoption and Permanant Care Inc hosted the 3rd Annual National Post Adoption Meeting in Sydney on 26-28 October.
The meeting was an opportunity for professionals in the post adoption field to hear about and discuss trends, themes and best practice within post adoption service delivery, plus network and learn from other professionals from the various States and Terrortories.
ISS Australia’s Manager, NSW Office Damon Martin chairs the NSW Committee and ISS Australia was a supporter of the National Post Adoption Meeting.
2011 Annual General Meeting
ISS Australia’s 2011 (50th) Annual General Meeting was held on 25 October at 4.00pm, at the offices of Page Up People (Level 10, 91 William St, Melbourne).
International Parental Child Abduction (IPCA) Forum
ISS Australia conducted a free forum on international parental child abduction (IPCA) on 12 September from 10.30 -11.30am, at Conference Rooms 1&2, DHS, 883 Whitehorse Rd, Box Hill. Speakers included Helen Freris (ISS Australia National Services Manager), Deborah Fry (Family Court of Australia) and a representative of the Department of Human Services (Victoria’s Central Authority under the 1980 Hague Convention). Future forums on IPCA will be notified via this website.
ISS Australia’s 50th anniversary
ISS Australia celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of its registration in 1961 with a reception at Government House on 17 March 2011, hosted by the former Governor of Victoria Professor David de Kretser AC and Mrs de Kretser.
