IPCA / DV Best Practice Protocol

Project: Domestic Violence and International Parental Child Abduction – Towards a Better Response (funded by Victorian Women’s Trust)

Best Practice Protocol now available

With generous support from the Victorian Women’s Trust, ISS Australia – in collaboration with organisations representing the legal, family violence and community support sectors in Victoria – has developed a best practice protocol to guide responsive service provision for mothers / other caregivers and children impacted by family violence and contemplating fleeing internationally with their children.

You can view the Best Practice Protocol here and accompanying Project Report here.

(For Word versions, download the Protocol here and the Project Report here).

ISS Australia hopes the guidelines presented in the practice protocol will:

  • Lead to responsive services for mothers and their children which enhance their dignity and safety and prevent the international removal of children
  • Improve referral networks for women and children experiencing family violence
  • Increase awareness of international child removal and retention among legal, community and family violence services
  • Enhance ISS Australia’s networks within the legal and family violence services sector in order to improve services to clients

The Best Practice Protocol is a starting point in ISS Australia’s strategy to respond to family violence and the safety of caregivers and their children. We welcome comments and suggestions on the Protocol and our services generally. Please contact us to share your thoughts and ideas.
